Ive already got a nice boat (chapperal), and I run the bimini up most of hte time to keep the wife and kids happy and out of the sun.
will it be any fun at all to pull a board behind this boat from the lower position like youd attatch a ski or tube rope to?
I read the basics, and its something Ill try this spring!

cool site!

thanks!

Thanks for the plug... Wakeboarding low (as we call it) is fine if your a beginner. The advantage of going up with the rope is that when you do finally start to jump from wake to wake, the lower rope will start pulling you back towards the water when you want to start going up.

It also helps with pulling you out of the water on startup.

This is the main advantage of a tower or extended pylon is that as you progress, you won't have to change anything on the boat but, skiing low is fine for beginners.

Hope this helps,
Eric

oh ok, so Ill be able to try and hurt myself without the bar and if I survive I can rig something up.
My sister bought one of thos e$80 boards from wallymart.

is it going to be useful to learn? or just aggrevating?

The walmart board will get you up fine and give you the feel for wakeboarding. The big question is what will your experience be?
My question is, how big is the board, what brand is it and what are the size of riders going to be. This would be some helpful information.

I'll be flat out honest here. What will make the biggest difference with your experience is having a good rider get you through the basics like getting up, holding the rope correctly, binding placement, etc.

If you have any accomplished riders in the family, I highly recommend taking them with you. This is as easy as water skiiing but, your most certainly going to do some face plants without proper guidence.

You might want to get a beginner video to walk you through the motions if you don't have someone to help you.

well she is alot smaller than me, BUT im betting that she didnt even notice that they came in different sizes or anything else.

we have a cousin ( Ive never met the dude) who is supposed to be good at this, maybe Ill try and get him up here.

if not Ill be doing quite a few faceplants, and get to test my fortitude.

thanks for the help!

hey mouth i have the same sort of situation as you...ive been wakeboarding for 3 years now (thats 3 years in New York so i only get out during summer lol) and i have an 18' chapparell with no tower...i can cut across the wakes and whatnot...the other day i landed my first 180 but i didnt stay up for lon after (never tryed riding switch; wasnt used to it)...still tryin to jump the wake....its not that im too scared to do it i just cant get the height needed...NEWAYS...b4 reading this post i hadnt a clue how important these towers are...i love xtreme sports and ive been doing them most of my life so this sounds beneficial to me...couple Qs...what is the cheapest reliable type of tower? and do they fit on any boat (how r they attached)?....thnx and good luck mouth

i just checked these things out and i prolly wont be gettn 1 soon...had no idea they breached the 1G mark lol...granted - im only 14

There are a lot of good towers out there for the stern drive market. What you need to watch for on these boats is that the fiberglass was not strengthened in areas where the towers mount. What can happen is you get gel-coat cracking where the tower mounts to the boat. Worst case is the tower pulls out of the fiberglass if the tower isn't mounted with decent HTPE or backer plates.

If you don't mind gel coat cracks, then towers are viable options on stern drives. Happy boarding!
